FAQs
What should I expect during my acupuncture session?
At your first visit we discuss your medical history and your health goals for the future.
I may examine your tongue, pulses and abdomen at your first and follow up treatments.
Please wear loose fitting clothes so we can reach your arms and legs in order to do the treatment.
FYI: Our clinic uses only sterile, single-use, disposable needles that are properly disposed of.
Once the needles are in you may be sitting or lying down 10-25 minutes while the needles are being retained.
We also use Moxa. This is an herb that is burned for healing purposes. It does not burn you! After burning Moxa you may have an odor of the herb on your clothing.
Please eat something about an hour before your treatment. Eating before treatment reduces the risk of weakness, dizziness or tiredness post-treatment. Acupuncture is like a work-out for your energy!
After your treatment you may feel very light and mentally relaxed. Try to hold on to this feeling and avoid doing strenuous or stressful activities for an hour.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a form of Oriental Medicine. Thin hair-like needles are inserted into the skin at locations called acu-points, which are located throughout the body, from head to toe. These Acu-points connect to each other through pathways, called meridians, that ultimately connect to organs. Each acu-point has specific functions and are used in combination with other acu-points to achieve a desired medical effect. These meridians influence the function of the organs. By stimulating specific acu-points along the meridian, the organ is influenced to rectify the problem causing the symptoms.
How many treatments do I need?
Every client has individual needs and goals. Depending on the severity of your symptoms and other factors we establish a treatment plan. Some clients need weekly treatments for 12 weeks, Others need 2-3 sessions per week for a shorter amount of time. Often for acute issues that arise, 1 or 2 sessions is all that is needed.
