Massages are a wonderful way to unwind and bask in some much needed time for oneself.

Adding Hot Stones allow you to get way more out of your massage. Our qualified Massage Therapist, Rochel Rubinoff explains that the aim of placing hot stones at key points on your body before your massage begins, is to alleviate muscle tension. This hot stone application will get both your mind and body in the mood for what’s to come and enhance the soothing effect of the accompanying massage. Hot stones are an essential ingredient to get the most out of this treatment.

How does Hot Stone Massage Works

Hot Stone Massage is a wonderfully warming treatment that works on energy points located throughout the body to re-balance and harmonise. The muscles are relaxed and rejuvenated in a sensation totally unique to hot stone massage.

The gentle pressure from the stones, along with the accompanying massage, has the effect of wiping out tension and literally making you feel like you’re walking on air.

Hot stone massage uses smooth flat heated stones. The stones are usually made of the volcanic rock type called basalt rich in magnesium and iron. These particular stones are chosen because they retain heat and they don’t have any rough edges. They are just the right weight to add the perfect amount of pressure.

These stones are also very effective at holding their heat for the duration of the treatment.

A hot stone massage is a little deeper than a regular massage, simply because the warmth allows the muscles to relax and Rochel Rubinoff, your massage therapist can then apply a little more pressure to work out those muscles and release any tension. Hot stones are placed on different parts of the body such as back, stomach, face, hands and feet.

Sometime Rochel will hold the stones in her hands and use them to massage with. This allows her to get deeper into the muscles without more pressure, helping her client to relax yet further.

Benefits of Hot Stone Massage

In addition to deep relaxation, there are many benefits to having a hot stone massage. They include:

Stress relief

Several studies have shown that massage reduces stress and anxiety and improves cardiovascular health.

Pain relief

Hot stone massage has specifically been associated with symptom relief in people with a variety of conditions, such as fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis.

Increased joint flexibility

Massage helps to relax muscles, which makes it easier and more comfortable for someone to move.

People with certain joint disorders may benefit particularly from hot stone massage.

Better sleep

Many people do not sleep well. Factors such as stress, insomnia, and busy schedules mean they get much less than the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

A review on the effectiveness of massage shows that it is helpful in promoting relaxation and sleep in older people.

Decreased muscle spasms and tension

Muscles that are tense and in spasm can cause a lot of pain and interfere with daily life.

Massage and the use of hot stones can promote relaxation of the muscles and joints in the body to ease both pain and spasms.

Getting the most from your massage

Despite the many benefits associated with hot stone massage, it is not an appropriate therapy for everyone and any concerns should be raised with the therapist: Heart disease, injuries or breaks in the skin, a fever, cold, or flu like symptoms,

If in doubt, ask your doctor if any of your medical conditions may interfere with having a massage, particularly a hot stone massage.

Prenatal massage can be very relaxing and beneficial for many women, during their pregnancy. However, some practitioners feel uncomfortable with using hot stones on a pregnant woman.

Make your Hot Stone Massage a better experience.

  • you should be treated by a trained, licensed, practitioner.

  • People should be sure to go to a respected clinic with good hygiene and stones cleaned appropriately.

Is Hot Stone Massage Painful?

Hot stone massage isn’t painful at all! The stones are warm, but not hot, and the warmth will feel pleasant.

Rochel Rubinoff uses a specialist heater for the stones, which is set to a precise temperature. This ensures that the stones do not become too hot.

However, Rochel will always ask you whether the depth and pressure are okay for you and if you feel like it’s too much, simply let her know and she’ll adjust accordingly.
